First Tiger's Game

On July 14th we went to your first Tiger's Game!  The Tiger's were playing the Texas Rangers and Justin Verlander was pitching.  The Tiger's won 5 to 0! Both mom and dad enjoy going to Tiger games and just as we both went to games as kids we think it is important that you have this experience at least once a year.  Looking forward to this tradition for many years to come!

A few of my favorite photos

Here is a few of my favorite pics right now...seriously...you are the most adorable baby ever!

Swim Class

Mommy has read quite a few baby books and many of them recommend putting your baby into a swim class.  The books say the swim class helps a baby relax, burn some energy and of course get them used to water.  So in early April I signed you up for a swim class at the Summit in Canton.  You couldn't start class until you were 6 months old...but luckily the summer session started June 19, just one day after your 6 month birthday. From the first class to the eighth you absolutely LOVED swimming!  You smiled and laughed and flirted with the swim teacher and lifeguards.  At the beginning of each class you weren't too sure exactly what was happening but by the end you didn't want to get out of the pool.  You didn't like swimming on your back but were happy swimming on your tummy and splashing or jumping in the water.  We also discovered that you love the 'wheels on the bus' song.  Especially the 'the windshield wipers go swish swish swish, all through the town' line.  Since discovering this we use the song to calm you and get you to stop crying :-)  We also had a blast at swim class as both mom and dad went in the pool with you so that we could take turns holding you as you learned to kick and splash.  We are already looking forward to next year's class and I'm sure you will love it even more then!  (PS. Big thanks to your cousin Lexi for taking all the photos at swim class!)

Happy 8 Months!

Dear Little Man -
I missed writing a 7 month post...so this is going to be a combined one :-)  I have attached pictures of both your 7 and 8 months and can't believe how much you have changed already little dude!  You are growing so quickly and we are having so much fun watching you transform from a baby to a toddler.  The last two months have been very busy ones for you and us as a family.  You will see in life that the summer's seem to just fly by here in Michigan and this one even more so than others.

We have really embraced summer activities and have gone on vacation twice, once to Empire, Michigan and the second time to Boston.  We have also taken you to your first Detroit Tiger's Game as well as your first Boston Red Sox Game.  We have spent a few Wednesdays at noon going to music in the park along with Friday night music in the air concerts in Kellogg Park.  Mommy also took you on a play date to the zoo and we attended a baby and kids music class.

While we have taken you to many different places, your most favorite experience all summer is your swim class and time spent in Lake Michigan and the Atlantic Ocean.  You love water!  Every time we were in the pool, lake or ocean you were a extra happy baby!  You would smile and giggle at us and through a little tantrum anytime we took you out of the water.  Maybe you will be a swimmer?

Other major milestones include you eating food! and lots of it!  You are very much into baby food, specifically, bananas, peaches, mangos, apricots and prunes. You will eat carrots, butternut squash and pumpkin, but you greatly dislike peas.  Who can blame you though?  You are also not at all interested in either oatmeal or rice cereal.  You are still primarily getting all of your nutrition from milk but you are becoming less interested in milk and more interested in food every day.

You have almost mastered sitting up on your own, but still are having the occasional fall backwards and bang your head...always at the moment when mom and dad turn our backs.  You are very interested in crawling and walking right now.  When in a sitting position you can now move yourself into the crawling position but your attempts to crawl usually turn into either a sideways scoot or you push yourself backwards and get very frustrated.  You also rock yourself back and fourth in the crawling position so we would be shocked if you aren't crawling very soon.  We also would not be surprised if you walked before you crawl...or maybe even do both at about the same time.  You love to scoot towards mom or dad and use our hands to get yourself from a seated position into a standing position.  You also love to stand and hold onto furniture and you even attempt to walk around furniture.

Your verbal skills are also starting to develop.  Sometimes when you talk to us we can even hear your little voice coming through instead of just baby babble, and it is the absolute cutest voice!  You are also starting to scream (both happy and mad screams) and grunt when you want something or are trying to communicate your likes and dislikes.  While the screaming can be a little annoying it is still very awesome to see you trying to communicate with us.

Another big change for both you and mommy and daddy this week is that your cousin Emmy, who has been watching you since May while mommy works, is going away to school.  We are very sad that she will no longer be taking care of you as you love spending time with her and she makes you smile and laugh!  You are going to be babysat by a friend of mom's but we are very nervous that it won't be the same.  We are all crossing our fingers that this is going to be a smooth transition for you and you continue to be a happy and easy going baby :-)

Finally, on your 8-month birthday, mommy and daddy also celebrated their 6-year wedding anniversary.  We celebrated by going out to eat at Compari's in Downtown Plymouth which is right across from the park we got married in.  It was very awesome to be able to celebrate as a family and we are looking forward to many more anniversary celebrations as a family as that day more than any other is a time for us to focus on the love we have for each other and you.

We love you so much little man!
